Peridot is characterized by being a precious stone, within the group of silicates, belonging to the orthorhombic system. Normally, this variety of Olivine is usually found in aggregates of small green crystals included in volcanic bombs. It forms in the interior of the earth's magma and then erupts to the surface through volcanoes. It has even been found in meteorites and comet dust.
It is a transparent stone. However, there are specimens of "cat's eye" that, on the surface, present a luminous stripe, caused by needle-shaped inclusions.
The most beautiful specimens of Peridot are extracted from the Himalayas in Pakistan. The Kashmir Peridot has the most beautiful, pure color and the largest dimensions. Unfortunately, however, the supply is very limited due to the harsh winters that make it impossible to harvest outside the months of June to September.
