Women's Day: 8M 2020

On this day, rather than congratulating or celebrating Women's Day, the first thing we want to convey to the whole Lavani team is a tribute and respect to all the women who throughout history have worked until they gave up their health, dignity and their lives in exchange for nothing. Deprived of the most elementary and just social and family rights, and of the harshest patriarchal and sexist system.

Women who fought for a hopeful future for all of us who came after them.

We would also like to thank all those who quietly make this planet a more habitable place every day, and continue to fight so that all that has been achieved over the years is not diminished.

To all of them, THANK YOU.

That said, it goes without saying that in the Lavani team, made up of 100% women, we are all feminists and believe in feminism, as it is nothing more than "the radical idea that women are people" as the African-American philosopher, Marxist politician and activist Angela Davis put it.

A tireless fighter for civil rights, against racial discrimination and anti-racist feminist. A feminism that she considers broad and inclusive in which we all fit. A woman that if you do not know about her, we invite you to look for information about her life because she will captivate you.

We could name many female figures who throughout history have promoted, fought or done their bit to give visibility to feminism. Women like Virginia Woolf, Frida Kalho, Indira Gandhi, María Eva Duarte de Perón or Marie Curie we all know. Others like Clara Zetkin, Emmeline Pankhurst, Susan B. Anthony, Mary Wollstonecraft that perhaps not all of us know about them, but we can still thank the doors they opened for us.

Today, fortunately, we continue to havenational and international ambassadors from the world of cinema, science, sports, etc. who manage to give visibility to the inequalities we all suffer, and their actions have more media coverage than we could achieve on the street.

And for this we must never let our guard down. We have all been able to make mistakes out of ignorance or unawareness of the real problem. Starting with our grandparents, who, although many of them opened the way for us and at home it was not tolerated that a man had privileges different from those of his sister, for example, but in the vast majority of cases, they were given by the education they had received and did not know any other family pattern. This went through our fathers/mothers/mothers who repeated behaviors that today seem unthinkable.

But therein lies the change and evolution that is necessary for things to improve little by little. This does not mean that everything is already done, as we can see, but awareness does represent a great step forward.

Nowadays we have too much access to information, both around us and in workshops, lectures, schools, etc. to look away and pretend that nothing is happening.

It's time, women. It is time to show that it is possible to live in a kinder and safer world for all of us. It is time to show that we are not going to conform and accept things just because they have been that way all our lives.

TOGETHER WE ADD UP. #8M.
